Overview
The journey of Miss Nepal began in 1994, with the purpose of selecting a representative to compete in the Miss Asia Pacific pageant. Over time, the pageant evolved, and additional collaborations led to the inception of the Kathmandu Jaycees Miss Nepal and Hidden Treasures Miss World Nepal pageants. Since 1998, the winner of Miss Nepal has been sent to participate in the prestigious Miss World contest, with the 1st runner-up representing Nepal in Miss Asia Pacific. The pageant faced a hiatus in 2001 due to the Nepalese royal massacre but resumed stronger than ever.
Miss Nepal’s mission to empower women has led to the expansion of opportunities for the winners. In 2004, the 2nd runner-up gained the opportunity to participate in the Miss Earth pageant, which later changed to the 1st runner-up. In 2010, the 2nd runner-up was selected to compete in Miss International, further diversifying the avenues for Nepalese beauty queens.
